Kristin Bowen
Kristin Bowen brings a uniquely well-rounded and deeply informed perspective to bankruptcy law—one shaped not only by years of legal practice, but by hands-on experience inside the bankruptcy system itself.
After earning her undergraduate degree from Washington State University, Kristin pursued her legal education with a focus on developing a strong foundation in debtor-creditor law. She began her legal studies at the University of Maryland School of Law before completing her Juris Doctor at Seattle University School of Law in 2012. From the outset of her career, Kristin gravitated toward bankruptcy and financial restructuring, recognizing both the complexity of the law and the real human impact behind every case.
A Unique Perspective on Chapter 13 CasesWhat sets Kristin apart is her extensive experience working directly within the Chapter 13 trustee system. Before joining Washington State Bankruptcy Lawyers, she spent over five years as an attorney for the Chapter 13 Trustee in Seattle. In that role, she was responsible for reviewing and administering thousands of Chapter 13 bankruptcy cases, working closely with debtors, creditors, and attorneys on a daily basis.
This experience provided Kristin with a rare, inside view of how bankruptcy cases are evaluated, approved, and managed from the trustee’s perspective. She developed a detailed understanding of what makes a Chapter 13 plan workable, where cases tend to encounter problems, and how courts assess compliance with bankruptcy requirements. That insight now allows her to guide clients more effectively, anticipating issues before they arise and structuring cases for long-term success.
When It Comes to Washington State Bankruptcy: Kristin Knows Both Sides of the How the Creditors ThinkIn addition to her trustee work, Kristin has represented both creditors and debtors throughout her career. This dual perspective gives her a practical, balanced approach to resolving financial challenges. She understands how creditors evaluate risk, how negotiations unfold, and how to position her clients in the strongest possible light within the bankruptcy process.
At Washington State Bankruptcy Lawyers, Kristin focuses her practice on helping individuals and families navigate Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy. She works closely with clients who are facing overwhelming debt—whether due to medical issues, job loss, divorce, or other life circumstances—and helps them understand their options with clarity and confidence.
Kristin believes that bankruptcy is not a failure, but a legal tool designed to provide a fresh financial start. Her approach is grounded in both technical knowledge and compassion. She takes the time to explain the process, answer questions, and ensure that clients feel supported at every stage.
As someone who is part of the LGBTQ+ community, Kristin is also committed to providing an inclusive and supportive environment for all clients. She understands that financial stress can be compounded by other life challenges and works to ensure that every client feels heard and respected.
Kristin is licensed to practice law in Washington State and is a member of the Washington State Bar Association. Her background, particularly her time working within the trustee’s office, provides clients with a level of insight and preparation that is both rare and invaluable in bankruptcy representation.
Outside Her Legal PracticeOutside of her legal practice, Kristin enjoys spending time with her wife and daughter. She is an avid reader and creative, often painting, attending musicals, or enjoying a day at T-Mobile Park.
